Geochemical Characteristics and Quality Appraisal of Groundwater From Huatugou of the Qaidam Basin on the Tibetan Plateau

Groundwater is the foremost water resource for various purposes in arid regions. The extremely climate makes groundwater geochemistry there evolve faster a short distance and supply face higher pressure of poor geochemical quality. A hyper-arid watershed on Tibetan Plateau was investigated to get insights into signature, formation, quality suitability there. total 13 surface samples 32 phreatic were collected hydrogeochemical analysis. results showed had better than more favorable human society utilization. dominated by relatively fresh hydrochemical facies HCO 3 –Ca, mixed –Na·Ca, Cl–Mg·Ca type with 93% having TDS below 1,000 mg/L. Most groundwaters soft (84.38%) excellent good (93%) domestic based entropy-weighted index evaluation. suitable irrigation terms sodium permeability hazard, but potential salinity hazard should be concerned. ascribed caused strong evaporation. Natural rock–water interactions including silicate weathering, carbonate dissolution, cation exchange still predominated processes governing chemical composition. influence activities very limited. exploitation management mainly consider evaporation due shallow depth.
